Wednesday Music - School of Rock

Many movie-goers will remember the movie that came out a considerable time ago by the name of School of Rock, starring Jack Black as a comical, totally-not-serious teacher that fills in for a teacher during his/her absence (frankly, I can't remember). After realizing they're a total bore, he whips out the instruments and molds them into rock 'n roll prodigies.

I'm sure the movie made a decent amount of money, and it was an all-around enjoyable movie (which isn't too hard with the lovable Jack Black). Watch it, enjoy it, and if you really liked it that much, then use one of these School of Rock high definition wallpapers!

Wednesday Music: Daft Punk

If you have ever seen the Tron: Legacy movie, two things (okay, maybe three) will stand out above all else. The first are the visuals, of course. The movie employs jaw-dropping visual effects and CGI to create a wondrous world inside of The Grid, showing off not only their artistic talent, but their massive budget as well. Olivia Wilde may or may not be one of those things, depending on your tastes (but if it is, she was smokin' in her role), and so the second thing is the music.
Music done by Daft Punk, that is. They are so appreciated that they even make it into the movie (albeit under the masks and guises of robotic/high-technological club DJs in The Grid). The music for the movie was even a huge hit outside of the cinema world, as well.

The band does, however, have a rich history long before the Tron: Legacy movie. Daft Punk has even done their own venture into the world of movies: Interstella 555. The entire movie is played to the tune of Daft Punk, and its definitely something else.

Wednesday Music #20: The Doors

The year is 1965, right in the midst of the psychedelic rock phase. The setting: Los Angeles, California, a bustling, modernly urban city by then. A new band is forming: The Doors. Ray Manzarek at the keyboard. Robby Krieger on the guitar. John Densmore playing the drums. And, of course, Jim Morrison for vocals.

It was Jim Morrison's hypnotizing, exotic songwriting and his devilishly interesting stage persona that boosted the band to fame. After his untimely death in '71, the rest of the band struggled on for a few years before ultimately breaking up in '73. In their rollercoaster ride of infamy, they created many huge hits that still make it on the playlists of younger students from high schools to colleges and older free spirits alike.

Wednesday Music #19 - Rolling Stones

The Rolling Stones are an English rock band formed in London in April 1962 by Brian Jones (guitar, harmonica), Ian Stewart (piano), Mick Jagger (vocals, harmonica) and Keith Richards (guitar, vocals). Bassist Bill Wyman and drummer Charlie Watts in the early line-up. Jones led the band to Jagger and Richards took the lead after working as a team of composers. In 1969, Jones decreasing contributions to the band and their inability to tour due to medical complications and legal, prompted him to leave the band three weeks before the drowning in your pool. Replacement Mick Taylor Jones stayed with the band until exit in 1974. Since then, Ronnie Wood, was the second guitarist. Wyman left the band in 1993 and his replacement Darryl Jones has become a full member. Stewart was taken from the official line-up in 1963 and continued as a road manager and occasional pianist, band until his death in 1985. Since 1982, Chuck Leavell was the keyboardist for the band.

First popularized in Europe, the Rolling Stones was quickly successful in North America during the British invasion of the mid 1960th After 22 studio albums released in the UK (24 U.S.), eleven live albums (twelve in the U.S.), and numerous collections worldwide sales estimated at more than 200 million records. Sticky Fingers (1971) began a series of eight consecutive studio albums reached number one in the United States. His most recent album of new material, A Bigger Bang, was released in 2005. In 1989 included the Rolling Stones were in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and in 2004 the number 4 in Rolling Stone's 100 greatest artists of all time. In 2008, Billboard ranked the Rolling Stones at number ten in the "Billboard Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists" and as the second most successful on the Billboard Hot 100.
 
The appearance of the Rolling Stones was the most international popularity of the early urban blues artists like Muddy Waters, who wrote were detected marked "Rollin 'Stone Chess Records," the song that the band took its name. Wednesday Music #18 - Rusko

If you're a fan of dubstep, this may be right up your alley. Whether you're some middle-aged dude with a taste for the electronic, or a college kid with a passion for bass, everyone can love dubstep.

Today's specific focus is the wonderful dubstep artist, Rusko. He has released so many massive hits that I can't even give a decent list of most. Everyday and Somebody to Love are some of his more popular songs.

Wednesday Music #14: Jimmy Eat World

"Jimmy Eat World is an American alternative rock band from Mesa, Arizona, that formed in 1993. The band is composed of lead vocalist and guitarist Jim Adkins, guitarist and backing vocalist Tom Linton, bassist Rick Burch and drummer Zach Lind.

Jimmy Eat World has released seven studio albums, the last six featuring the current lineup. The band originally formed with a punk rock sound, first releasing a demo tape in 1993, followed by their first EP in 1994, titled One, Two, Three, Four. Their debut self-titled album (1994) was released with current guitarist Linton singing most of the lead vocals on the album. Jimmy Eat World released both their second and third albums through Capitol Records, with Static Prevails (1996) featuring their first single "Rockstar". The critically acclaimed Clarity (1999) contained the single "Lucky Denver Mint", which was featured in the film Never Been Kissed and went on to garner a cult following." -Wikipedia

Wednesday Music #13: Axl Rose

Younger Axl Rose

Axl Rose is the lead man of Guns N' Roses, a popular band from the 1980s. Guns N' Roses released a myriad of hit singles, most of which are on their incredibly successful album "Appetite for Destruction." After their rise to fame and subsequent drug-induced feuds between band-members Slash and Rose, the band was broken up. Rights to name stayed with Rose, and today the Guns N' Roses band features a line-up of new members (save for Axl Rose, of course).

Recently, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame attempted to give Axl Rose and the Guns N' Roses an honorary induction, which is something most rock musicians can only dream of. Rose sent a letter through his spokesperson, claiming that he did not feel respect or welcomed at the ceremonies and would not attend or accept an induction.

It is still to be seen if the rest of the group will attend the awards ceremonies to have themselves inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, or if Axl Rose's decision to stay out of it all will have an effect on the rest of their inductions.

Wednesday Music #12: Black Keys

The Black Keys are a huge success lately, seeing many of their songs reaching billboard status -- and collectively selling well over 2 million albums through the U.S. The band, made up of Dan Auerbach at guitar/vocals and Patrick Carney at drums, began as an independent act created following the pair's dropping out of college. You may recognize one of their most popular songs, "Tighten Up," which won three Grammies. Want to get into the Black Keys spirit? Check out the high definition wallpapers below!

Wednesday Music #11: The Beatles

Hi.Def.Walls' Wednesday Music presents: high definition The Beatles wallpapers!

Everyone knows The Beatles, but just in case, we'll do a quick run-down of the best-selling band of all time. Formed in Liverpool, England, at the opening of the 60s, The Beatles were hugely successful and are still adored by countless fans longer after their break-up.

The most well-known lineup for the band is John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. These members, as well as the innovative rock that they created, personified the counterculture of the time, as the band was largely psychedelic and the members openly consumed many different kinds of drugs.

Wednesday Music #10: Foo Fighters

I cannot attest for the rest of the world (or even for the rest of the U.S.), but here in the Los Angeles area of southern California, it seems like the rock radio stations will never let a Foo Fighters hit rest in peace. Throwing one on after the other, and sometimes doing this multiple times per day, seems to be characteristic of the stations around here. In between the most recent hip-hop/electronica hits, I can always catch a Foo Fighters song.

The band was formed by Dave Grohl after Cobain's death dissolved Nirvana. Intended as a one-man act, this band has gone through more members than most other bands. There are quite a few songs that have done well for the band, and a cursory glance through the list will bring up some musical memories. Even more of them may be re-discovered through listening to each song, which is not a bad idea if your radio station does not bombard you with them constantly.
