Wednesday Music - School of Rock

Many movie-goers will remember the movie that came out a considerable time ago by the name of School of Rock, starring Jack Black as a comical, totally-not-serious teacher that fills in for a teacher during his/her absence (frankly, I can't remember). After realizing they're a total bore, he whips out the instruments and molds them into rock 'n roll prodigies.

I'm sure the movie made a decent amount of money, and it was an all-around enjoyable movie (which isn't too hard with the lovable Jack Black). Watch it, enjoy it, and if you really liked it that much, then use one of these School of Rock high definition wallpapers!

Wednesday Music #14: Jimmy Eat World

"Jimmy Eat World is an American alternative rock band from Mesa, Arizona, that formed in 1993. The band is composed of lead vocalist and guitarist Jim Adkins, guitarist and backing vocalist Tom Linton, bassist Rick Burch and drummer Zach Lind.

Jimmy Eat World has released seven studio albums, the last six featuring the current lineup. The band originally formed with a punk rock sound, first releasing a demo tape in 1993, followed by their first EP in 1994, titled One, Two, Three, Four. Their debut self-titled album (1994) was released with current guitarist Linton singing most of the lead vocals on the album. Jimmy Eat World released both their second and third albums through Capitol Records, with Static Prevails (1996) featuring their first single "Rockstar". The critically acclaimed Clarity (1999) contained the single "Lucky Denver Mint", which was featured in the film Never Been Kissed and went on to garner a cult following." -Wikipedia

Wednesday Music #13: Axl Rose

Axl Rose is the lead man of Guns N' Roses, a popular band from the 1980s. Guns N' Roses released a myriad of hit singles, most of which are on their incredibly successful album "Appetite for Destruction." After their rise to fame and subsequent drug-induced feuds between band-members Slash and Rose, the band was broken up. Rights to name stayed with Rose, and today the Guns N' Roses band features a line-up of new members (save for Axl Rose, of course).

Recently, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame attempted to give Axl Rose and the Guns N' Roses an honorary induction, which is something most rock musicians can only dream of. Rose sent a letter through his spokesperson, claiming that he did not feel respect or welcomed at the ceremonies and would not attend or accept an induction.

It is still to be seen if the rest of the group will attend the awards ceremonies to have themselves inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, or if Axl Rose's decision to stay out of it all will have an effect on the rest of their inductions.

Crazy, huh? Well, you can't forget the good ol' days, I suppose, so have some high definition wallpapers of Guns N' Roses (and, of course, Axl Rose). Enjoy!

Wednesday Music #9: Metallica

Few bands are as widely known to the metal world as the perhaps well-named Metallica, which came together over three decades ago (1981) to rock the realm of thrash. Their line-up currently is James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo; they are still racking up years for the band.

Metallica has seen a lot of support from its fans in times some would consider a 'purer' Metallica, full of the unique thrash that these fans want to hear. The band has also witnessed a lot of anger, coincidentally, at St. Anger, Metallica's second-to-last album (at time-of-writing, early 2012). Recently, they have brought a bit of their fan-base back with their newest work, Death Magnetic, but the band has already sustained heavy damage.

What future lays in store for Metallica is up to the fans. If they are forgiving, Metallica may soon make a strong comeback. However, should fans stand stalwart on the matter, then we will likely see the end of a once-great band.

Wednesday Music #8

Music is an integral part of modern society, whether or not many of us accept that truth. After all, the entertainment industry is one of the largest in America, and even in the world. Music dominates a great portion of the entertainment industry (alongside film) and as such, is responsible for a large flow of our economy. Thanks to music, a huge industry functions even better each and every day. So let's enjoy it with these epic wallpapers.

Wednesday Music #7

For the music-themed Wednesday wallpapers, I have decided to do some Led Zeppelin. Why, you may ask? Well, I was listening to a lot of electronic music lately (honestly, not just dubstep! haha), and I was really getting into it; but then I realized something. I had done so at the expense of all of my other music tastes! So, to reintroduce some good ol' rock 'n roll, I threw in some Led Zeppelin. Few bands are more deserving of a Wednesday Music spot than they, and so I hope you enjoy this set of high definition wallpapers:

LED ZEPPELIN!

The name of Led Zeppelin has come to mean so much in the music industry, both as a band of greatness and a name of legend, that it is hard to believe they were not always known by that particular moniker -- though their previous one was short-lived. In the beginning, way back in the year of 1968, they were known as the New Yardbirds (but that did not last very long!).

After a bit of trouble with the ownership of the name "New Yardbirds," (the previous project name, "The Yardbirds," played their final gig at the Luton College of Technology in England) rumor has it that they decided to change their name to "Lead Balloon," but their manager suggested they change the first word to "Led" as some might pronounce the first word similarly to "leed." Taking it to the next level, they decided to change "Balloon" to "Zeppelin," effectively cementing the name that is now known worldwide.

This band eventually reached 111-and-a-half million certified sales in the U.S., making it the second best-selling band in the country (right after the Beatles). Some have even gone as far to claim that the band was perhaps the greatest rock 'n roll band to ever have existed, and perhaps it is true. After all, who does not know Led friggin' Zeppelin?

Led Zeppelin has not always been so appreciated, though. In fact, one time back in 1970, during their inception as a band, they ran into a snag with using the Zeppelin name, according to this article:

"Led Zeppelin's 1970 European tour ran into a snag right as it started. Countess Eva von Zeppelin,  a descendent of Zeppelin Aircraft founder Ferdinand von Zeppelin, was none too pleased that a rock & roll band was using her family name. "They may be world famous," she said. "But a couple of shrieking monkeys are not going to use a privileged family name without permission." She threatened to sue them, putting their February 28, 1970 Copenhagen gig in jeopardy. Zeppelin manager Peter Grant talked her into a meeting with the band, and she almost was appeased after discovering they were actually nice young men – until she caught a glimpse of the cover of their debut LP, which shows the Hindenburg bursting into flames. Rather than attempt further damage control, Grant and Jimmy Page decided simply to change the group's name to the Nobs for the one show. The show went off without a hitch, a lawsuit never surfaced and the publicity around the incident actually helped the young band get their name out."
