Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT)

I have decided that from now on, the new Friday category for wallpapers will be Student's Pick, which will feature the random wallpaper-subject choices that I think would be interesting to my fellow college and university student peers. Friday seems the best day since that's when classes are off for the weekend, and we can relax from our tight schedule of studying, learning, and going to the campus!

My choice today is TMNT, or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. TMNT is a popular franchise that includes toys, comics, television shows, you name it -- a typical 90s-kid fan favorite. Being a 90s kid myself, I'm sure my colleagues are probably similarly acquainted with the franchise (and hopefully similarly enjoy it, as well!).

Check out these HD walls for TMNT in today's Student's Pick (and keep in mind that there are waaaay more TMNT wallpapers available at the album I created for them, which can be found by clicking here to go to imgur):

College & University Campus (for Students!)

As I am sure all of my readers are well-aware, I am a student at a city college hoping for a transfer to study at a university. While I am studying away for my classes, I often find myself on my laptop to research information, to write essays or papers, and to goof off a bit when my mind has been on just one topic for too long!

So, I figure that my laptop should be learning and education friendly while I'm using it at the school, to keep me on track for studying (or, at least, as long as I can stay on track in a cramped city college library!). That brings me to the focus of today's post: college and university campus / logo wallpapers (for students!):

Books & Library HD Wallpapers

Here's something for the academics and the bookworms: some high definition book and library-themed wallpapers. These can be good for a classy, appropriate desktop (such as a more public computer in your house, or in a college / university class room or study).

I find that these sorts of wallpapers can help me study a bit better for my city college classes, since I can get absorbed in the idea of reading and studying! There's about seven of them in total, so be sure to click the "Read more >>" link at the bottom of this post to view all of the wallpapers!

Tech Tuesday: Steampunk

I think Wikipedia can more accurately describe this than I, a simple and lowly college student, can, so here's an excerpt from their page on Steampunk:

"Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction characterized by a setting in which steam power predominates as the energy source for industrial technologies,[1] inspired by industrial civilization during the 19th century.

Typically, therefore, works of steampunk are set in an alternate history of the 19th century's British Victorian era or American "Wild West"; in a post-apocalyptic future during which steam power has regained mainstream usage; or in a fantasy world that similarly employs steam power.

Steampunk perhaps most recognizably features anachronistic technologies or retro-futuristic inventions as people in the 19th century might have envisioned them, and is likewise rooted in this era's perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, and art. Such technology may include fictional machines like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne."

Zoids

Zoids, know as "Zoido" in Japan, is a massive franchise started by Tomy, a Japanese toy company now operating as Takara-Tomy. The original Zoids were models, much like Transformers were. They're actually pretty cool, since after you build them, you can make many of them walk around or do other cool stuff, thanks to its built-in motorization.

Perhaps the most well-known piece of the franchise is the anime (though, this is definitely arguable). The Zoids anime was successful in both Japan and the United States, garnering show slots on Toonami alongside such popular animes as Dragonball Z and Gundam.

Now these models are often seen as one of many model-building hobbies for college students and the older generation alike.

Gundam!

For those of you who are already aware of what Gundam is (probably college-student nerds much like myself, I suspect), just skip the following description and go straight to the high definition Gundam wallpapers below.

For those of you who are unaware of what Gundam is exactly, read the rest of this post for a brief summary of the book, television, and film series (hint: it has a ton of giant, flying robots in it!) from Wikipedia:

"The Gundam Series (ガンダムシリーズ Gandamu Shirīzu?) is a metaseries of anime created by Sunrise studios that features giant robots (or "mecha") called "Mobile Suits" (MS); usually the protagonist's MS will carry the name Gundam.

The metaseries started on April 7, 1979, as a serial TV show called Mobile Suit Gundam. That first TV series has since spawned a franchise that has come to include works released in numerous media.

Titles have appeared in the form of multiple television series and OVAs, movies, manga, novels and video games, among other modes. The story from the original 1979 series has been considerably extended with sequels, prequels, side stories and alternate timelines.

As a result, the title Gundam has become a collective term for the seven distinct but related timelines that can be pieced together from the stories that appear in the Gundam franchise. Generally speaking, the timelines do not intersect, but they do contain a few common elements such as the titular war machines called Gundam.

However, all Gundam timelines and worlds, long after their own anime series, do eventually intersect and combine in the series Turn A Gundam."

Monday Fun-day: The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight Rises is absolutely, without a doubt, among the best superhero movies to have ever been released. The entire Dark Knight series, directed by Christopher Nolan, is a serious, epic take on Batman that sees bits and pieces of all the best best Batman comics thrown in, as well as some modern/futuristic adjustments.

I will try not give too much away here, but fans will not be disappointed in Bane's appearance as the main villain, and he does live up to the expectations. Bale also did a great job portraying Nolan's wise, brooding Bruce Wayne/Batman, although in my opinion he was many times more awesome in The Dark Knight.

Unfortunately, The Dark Knight Rises got a bit of bad press after the theater shoot-up that occurred after a college student from California opened fire on an entire theater screening the new Dark Knight Rises film. It made some people afraid to see the movie, and there were even copycat attempts!

However, the fever has died down, and hopefully so have the copycats.

Check below for a ton of high definition wallpapers for The Dark Knight Rises, in theaters now.

Skyrim - Winterhold Mage's College

For those of you who are unaware (and not a part of the gaming community at all, if you are indeed unaware), Skyrim is the fifth installment to the huge Elder Scrolls fantasy game series, one of Bethesda's famous non-linear open-world RPGs (click here for my previous post with a Skyrim wallpaper).

The following high definition wallpapers are of the school for those who wish to learn magic, the Mage's College in Winterhold. You can talk to a few people here, students and teacher alike, who will let you in on some secrets of all types of spellcasting (for gold, of course).

Linux Tiem

For those of you who already know what Linux is, you can skip the description below and just go straight to the wallpapers. Just thought I'd save you some time. ;]

For those who are unaware, you probably recognize the two big names in operating systems (OS) right now: Windows and Mac, created by Microsoft and Apple respectively. While Windows was the computer of choice in my household, Macs were quite popular at schools and with college kids, for their simplistic designs.

Those two seem to dominate the computer world in popularity, but the more hardcore users have a different preference: Linux.

Linux, a "Unix-like" OS, is an operating system that promotes free, open source code (the "instructions" for software/programs, essentially). It was released by Linus Torvalds in October of 1991, and has since become an almost cult-like favorite among computer nerds.

Check out the high definition wallpapers below for Linux!

United States of America (USA)

My apologies to the foreigners that visit my blog, because today's post is all about the home country of this college kid: the United States of America. The country that fought for its independence from colonial English expansion well over two centuries ago stays strong even today, and this post celebrates that.

These high definition wallpapers will satisfy even the pickiest patriotic students of desktops and backgrounds, so dig in and enjoy if you're looking for a little red, white, and blue to adorn your computer screen. Go crazy with some patriotic spirit!

Sunday Landscapes - Jungles & Rain Forests

One of the most fascinating places on the entire planet is the jungle... These shrubbery-shrouded forests have long been in the eyes of art and science, not just for their mystery but for their answers. Medicine and several other sorts of sciences owe quite a bit to the jungle, where a plethora of potent plants found nowhere else form incredible medicines, and biological species abound.

If you want to capture the awe-inspiring scenery of the jungle and the rain forest, check out the jungle/rain-forest high definition (HD) wallpapers below:
